World Environment Day
World Environment Day was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm on 5th June, 2024 at Dolphin (PG) Institute with an aim to highlight environmental issues and emphasize the importance of not taking nature for granted. The event also aimed to encourage the adoption of new approaches to reduce resource consumption, promote greener models, enhance sustainability, protect natural habitats, impart environmental education to young people, and inspire them to coexist harmoniously with nature, thus fostering a green future
Prof. Sas Biswas, Head Department of Forestry delivered a theme based lecture on Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.
In order to make Dolphinites aware of our environment and its conservation, a pledge was taken by all the members of Dolphin Institute. The oath taking ceremony was carried over by Dr. Deepali Rana. 168 students and 45 staff and faculty members took the oath.
To create awareness on environmental issues, poster and reel making competition was organized where students displayed their posters according to the theme. Jyotsana Bhatt, Department of Agriculture won first prize, Charu and Pushpanjali and Neha and Ruchika, both from Forestry Department won second and third prize, respectively.
Tree plantation was done at the reception area where a sapling of Azadiracta indica (Neem) was planted by Principal Dr. Shailja Pant, Director (Admin) Shri V. K. Nagpal, Dean Shri Vipul Garg and IQAC Coordinator Dr. Shruti Sharma. This was coordinated by Dr. A.K. Pundir, Department of Botany.
The goal of celebrating World Environment Day is to increase public awareness of critical environmental concerns such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Public awareness of the value of environmental preservation and the adoption of sustainable practices is spread through educational initiatives and programs.
Visit to ‘Regional Science Centre’
A visit to ‘Regional Science Centre’, Vigyan Dham (UCOST) was also organized as a part of ’World Environment Day 2024’ celebration by Department of Microbiology. 23 students of B.Sc. Medical Microbiology were accompanied by Mr .Vijay Tiwari, faculty member to Vigyan Dham on 05.06.2024. The purpose of the visit was to create awareness about the conservation of environment. The students attended a lecture series by Dr. D.P. Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST and Prof. Durgesh Pant, DG, UCOST on the theme ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’. The lectures were highly informative. The students got acquainted with the global deterioration of environment and pledged to unite themselves to restore ecosystems
