International Chess Day
International Chess Day 2024 was observed on 20th July. This date holds special importance in the chess world, as it commemorates the founding of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on July 20, 1924, in Paris, France. Currently FIDE has 181 chess federations as its members. The day serves as a platform to promote chess as a powerful tool for education, the cultivation of logical thinking, and cultural exchange among the participants. Beyond its competitive aspects, chess is celebrated for teaching valuable life skills and values such as patience, resilience, and sportsmanship, making it a favourite pastime and educational tool embraced by people across diverse cultures and generations.
Sports Committee at Dolphin (PG) Institute celebrated the International Chess Day 2024 by holding an Interdepartment Boys and Girls Chess Competition among the students. Students from the departments of Agriculture, Forestry, Commerce, Pathology, Physiotherapy, Microbiology and Biotech participated enthusiastically in the competition.
In the boys category Kuldeep from the Dept. of Microbiology bagged the first position, while Anil Mardi from the Dept. of Forestry and Ankit from the Department of Medical Lab Technology bagged 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In the girls category Prayashma from the Dept. of Forestry, Bhumi from the Dept. of Microbiology while B. Taniya from the Department of Medical Lab Technology bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
All the participants were awarded with Participation Certificates, while the winners were awarded with Memento, Certificates and Medals.
Mr. Suman Singh, Boys Sports Captain, Sh. Vipul Garg, Dean Students Welfare, Sh. N.K. Joshi, Sports Officer and members of Sports Committee were present on the occasion to encourage the students.
