Ethical issues in Higher Education and ways to tackle them
One day International Webinar on “Ethical issues in Higher Education and ways to tackle them” was organized by the Institute in collaboration with Globethics.net India, Bangalore on 28 July 2022. More than 400 participants from all over the globe registered for the webinar. The webinar was organized with the objective to make the faculty members aware of the significance of professional ethics in higher education. Apart from imparting quality education, it is of utmost importance that teachers instill high ethical values and practices amongst the student fraternity.
The session started at 2 PM will the welcome address by Dr. Shruti Sharma, Coordinator IQAC Dolphin Institute followed by a virtual tour of the Institute. In the Keynote address Dr. Karanam Pushpanadham, Head, Departmental Administration, Faculty of Education and Philosophy, The Maharaja Sayojirao University, Baroda, Gujarat, emphasized that education must play an important role in developing positive thinking and mindfulness in students. In his highly motivational address Dr. Pushpanadham stated that the main responsibility of an educational institution is not alone to give information but rather to bring an absolute transformation in students to develop responsibility, civic sense and respectfulness. This was followed by a talk by Dr. Viswabushan Karanam, Former Professor of Social Work at Ethiopia Civil Service University, Adis Ababa, Ethiopia who explained the practical challenges between virtue ethics and deontological ethics and their importance. Ms. Christine Housel, Strategic Development and Global Partnership, Globethics.net, Geneva, Switzerland, emphasized on the role Globethics is playing in building ethical values in teachers and students in higher education around the globe. In the last talk of the day Dr. John Methuselah, Training Manager, Axis Bank stressed on paradox in education explaining the principle of Epimenides Paradox describing the concept behind sieving the testing, evaluation and assessment.
